Dear Parents
On moving to Brighton from London in 1990, one of my first tasks was to find suitable childcare in
the Queen’s Park area. Having researched all the childcare in the area I was surprised to find the
sort of nursery and childcare I was looking for was unavailable.
My ideal nursery would be one where the staff were warm, welcoming and friendly, where my
children would be safe and secure and where a relaxed and happy atmosphere would encourage
them to learn, laugh and play as they do at home.
I looked into setting up my own nursery and Orchard Day Nursery opened in May 1991, with
only 5 children, 2 of whom were my own! Since that time we have gone from strength to strength opening
an After School Club in 1994.
We are now registered to care for 64 children aged 6 months to 5 years
and 24 children aged 5 and over at the After School Club.
I believe the strength of Orchard Day Nursery is the staff and their commitment to the children in their
care. The staff combines the stimulation, variety, social interaction and education provided at nursery
with the security, warmth and happiness found at home. Every child we have looked after and taught
over the past 15 years has been unique and has displayed differing needs. We have treated each child as
an individual and I believe their needs have been met as such.
Our Partnership with Parents policy has promoted good communication and friendship over the years and
allowed a good forum for openness and discussion about any problems, which may occur. We are open to
criticism and take any complaints seriously and learn from them.
We have evolved along with the building we occupy. Much development and many improvements have taken
place in moving this building on from a rundown old church into a bright, impressive example of Victorian
architecture.
The nursery, which occupies the ground and part of the upper floors, has been refurbished
recently to a high standard and this has allowed us to request Ofsted to register us to care for young
babies from six months. This commenced in September 2005.
We are also a part of the quality assurance scheme for nurseries QUILT this enables us to keep our high
standards.
We would like to invite you to visit us at Orchard Day Nursery to see the premises and meet the staff and
discuss your needs as a family.
Looking forward to meeting you,
Best wishes
